Asheville isn’t the only place worth checking out in Western North Carolina. As the city becomes more and more congested, people are starting to look for homes for sale in Arden, NC. Arden is not far from the big city—only 10 miles or so—and is a great place to live with plenty to make it an attractive town in its own right.
Whether you’re moving from Asheville to the ‘burbs for a change of pace or from out of town and looking to live the high life in the Blue Ridge mountains, there are plenty of things to do in Arden.
All About Arden, North Carolina
Arden is an unincorporated community in Buncombe county, North Carolina. It is located just south of Asheville proper, near Fletcher and just above the Henderson County line. Arden is up there in the mountains, at 2,218 feet above sea level.
One fun fact: Arden gets its name from Shakespeare. The community is named for the Forest of Arden from the bard’s comedy “As You Like It.” That’s a good fact to keep in your back pocket for any Ashevillians who try to claim they’re the only artsy town in the area!
Real estate in Arden has been booming, riding on the same wave as the rest of Western North Carolina. To put it simply, the secret is out. People love living here and are traveling from far and wide to find a home in the mountains. Arden is one of the many local communities that has seen a sudden popularity surge in the past decade.
As young Asheville residents begin to settle in and start families, they’re flocking to neighborhoods outside the city limits. Living in Arden offers planned subdivisions with new construction homes, as well as mid-century ranches. Homes for sale in Arden typically come with a larger lot than those in a similar price range in Asheville. This makes Arden the perfect place for growing families looking for room to spread out.
The Many Things to Do in Arden
Sure, the beautiful homes in Arden are appealing, but you don’t want to be driving into Asheville every time you want a night out. Fortunately, the activities and food scene in Arden are keeping up with population growth.
If you’re a long-time Asheville resident, you probably have tried Rocky’s Hot Chicken (unless you’re vegan, of course). If you have, you know you can’t live without it. Fortunately, Rocky’s has a South location right in Arden. Vegans will want to head to Bean Vegan Cuisine, right down the street.
While we’re on the food and drink topic, be sure to check out 12 Bones Brewing, located in the same building as 12 Bones Barbecue’s south location. They have some incredible food and a huge variety of beers in every style brewed right on site.
Looking for somewhere to spend a sunny day? How about Lake Julian? The park is gorgeous, and offers all kinds of activities for the whole family. You can take your boat out for some fishing, have a picnic in the grass, or play some volleyball and horseshoes in the park’s sand pits. There’s also a great playground for the kids, a walking trail, and a disc golf course. The park is open all year, except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day, and New Year’s Day. If you’re here for the holidays, you’ll definitely want to check out the Festival of Lights, held at Lake Julian from late November until right before Christmas.
Family Fun in Arden
There are plenty of things for the whole family to do in Arden. Kids will love Mountain Play Lodge, a huge indoor playground with a massive jungle gym and a miniature Asheville play area, complete with its own Baby Biltmore.
Actual children and adult children alike will also dig Launch Trampoline Park, where there’s something for everybody. There are trampoline courts, basketball, dodgeball, a Ninja course, virtual reality experiences, and an arcade. Launch offers a ton of different experiences for the whole family, including toddler time for kids 6 and under on Tuesday and Saturday, Ignite—a blacklight-powered, glow-in-the-dark party every Friday—and parent’s night out, where you can drop your kids off for a babysitter, activities, and dinner while you take off for a carefree night out.
